Shortly after its inception in 1917, Lions Clubs International became known as the "knights of the blind" through our work with Helen Keller. Our local club here in Grand County continues the tradition of aiding those with vision problems. We have an active referral program through the local school nurses. That program enables those who are unable to afford glasses to get the help they need. Our vision program coordinator,
Florice Lietzke, (970-726-0253) works closely with Scott Linn at
Winter Park Optical to provide for our community's vision needs.
We also provide our community with a special camera which enables us to screen very young children for vision problems, and run the local Lions KidSight Program. Add in our contributions to Denver's
Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Bank
and the
Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Institute, and it's obvious that sight is an important focus for us.
