Officer Election Finalized at April 17 Meeting
This year, we offered all Lions the opportunity to vote both online and in person. Online voting was done via email, in-person voting was done at our April 17 meeting. The slate of officers was enthusiastically elected. Our new officers are: Jan Boynton, Jeff Browne, Deb Buhayar, Jill Childress, Claude Diamond, Kent Hughes, Kirk Klancke, Jerry Nissen, Bill Steinmiller and Dennis Troutman, with Peter Kerswell as our previous president. Congratulations to our new board members and many thanks to retiring board members, Howard Venezia and Dawn Browne.
Moffat Agreement Action Needed
Trout Unlimited hosted a meeting on March 27 to learn about the proposed Moffat agreement, why Trout Unlimited supports it, and why we need to push to get certain requirements included in the permit. Grand County, Trout Unlimited and Denver Water have reached a compromise which will ensure the future of the Fraser We now have only a short time in which to make this compromise part of the final agreement. For more information, go to the local Trout Unlimited website.
9Health Fair Schedule
On October 11, our Club will again host the 9Health Family Fair at Fraser Elementary. Two local spring 9Health fairs are coming up in Grand County:
April 26 Granby Elementary School at 200 W. Topaz
May 17 Middle Park Medical Center at West Grand Elementary and Middle School in Kremmling at 715 Kinsey Ave.
May Meeting Schedule
We'll have our regular Club breakfast meeting May 1 at Carvers, but our second meeting of the month will be a dinner meeting on May 22, rather than a breakfast meeting on the 15th. To be clear, there will NOT be a breakfast meeting on the 15th.
On May 22, we'll have our traditional spring dinner meeting at a local restaurant. It will replace our regular morning the previous week. Jerry is currently working on bids from local restaurants and menu details. Details will follow as they are finalized. Online registration and dinner selection will be available as soon as possible.
Festivities will start with cocktails at 5:30. As usual, there will be a brief meeting and swearing in of officers. For now, just save the date.
Lions Golf Tournament June 24
Be sure to sign up all your friends to golf at the beautiful Pole Creek course on June 24. Dawn Browne is the chair of this year's golf tournament and will be recruiting Lions to golf or work the event. We'll also have a raffle of a Karen Vance giclee and a silent auction. More information is available at the Golf page under the Home tab or by clicking here.
Board Meetings at New Location
The board tried our April board meeting at Devil's Thumb Ranch in the afternoon rather than an early morning meeting. Everyone was happy with the result. Why not, it was happy hour after all. We'll meet for our next board meeting on Monday May 12 at Heck's at 4PM. Every effort will be made to get the actual agenda covered quickly in order to allow sufficient time for appetizers and adult beverages.
CASA Volunteers Needed
Shanna Ganne from CASA educated us about the Court Appointed Special Advocates program at our last meeting. Several Lions were interested in learning more about volunteering with CASA. They're looking for volunteers. Here's what Shanna had to say.
"I wanted to thank you again for allowing me to come visit with the lions club about Northwest Rocky Mountain CASA.
I would like to share a call for volunteers with the lions club, if possible -
Northwest Rocky CASA is seeking community members to become CASA volunteers. CASA volunteers advocate for children that are victims of abuse and neglect within the court system. If you have any questions, please contact Shanna Ganne at firstname.lastname@example.org
or visit our website http://nwrmcasa.org/ "
Lions Donate Nearly $60,000
A pride of proud Lions attended our first-ever Grants Award Luncheon at the YMCA Snow Mountain Ranch. We invited all of our new grant recipients to join us for a celebratory lunch intended to give Lions the chance to see just where our hard-earned money goes. The lunch also enabled the grant winners to meet Lions and learn a little about our Club. We're proud to have given out $59,732 earned by our Lions activities. Congratulations to all our grant recipients and to our Club for all our hard work which allows us to be so generous in our community. Photos from the event are available in our online photo album by clicking here. The Sky-Hi Daily News published a photo and brief article about the event on Friday, January 24. District 6W Convention May 2-4 2014
Everyone remembers last spring’s District 6W Convention here at the Winter Park Hotel. The next District Convention is scheduled for May 2-3, 2014 in Glenwood Springs. This time we can be attendees at an event with another Club doing all the work! That means we can go to seminars, attend the parties and order a cocktail without worrying if the next part of the event was going to be perfect. Let's have a nice showing of support from our Club.
For details click here. If you have questions contact Gary Broetzman at email@example.com 970-984-3360 or Lindel Silvertooth at firstname.lastname@example.org 316-655-7753.
