Road damage prevents open days for St. Louis Creek
U.S. Forest Service open days will not be held this year for St. Louis Creek Road to the trailhead due to damage sustained in last year’s spring flooding. Damage to the road is 1,200 feet long and comprises four washouts. Adequate parking and turn around space is not available below the damaged area. Forest Service engineers estimate that is will cost some $100,000 to repair the damage, however, even if the funds are available, the Rocky Mountain Research Station’s Fraser Experimental Forest does not need the road for administrative use and has not prioritized the road for repair. Several open days will be scheduled for the Mt. Nystrom/Fool Creek trailhead this summer but exact dates have yet to be set.
